The Opposite Meaning of Success is not Failure. It’s Not Challenging

How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?

When I remind my experience, I always mistake something. During as a trainee in my company, I mistook tasks and bothered my colleagues. I failed an entrance exam to go to university when I was third grade of high school student. So, I had no choice but to take a gap year to take the entrance exam again.

However, to review my bad memories, I don’t feel minus emotion. Instead, I appriciate to my those experience. Why I got positive reaction for my failure.

Going back to a second year of my high school student, I was in marching band club. My club was so crazy. Every year, my club participated in a national competition. But, we had never won at the competition. That’s why, we were enthusiastic to practice every day.

Of course, I practiced everyday. I was never play a percussion so, I had never to practice the amount of time compared to others. I did complete every tasks from a leader and an expert teacher. I had never mistaken.

However, the biggest and horrable moment was coming to me. When I performed a result of tasks to the teacher, I mistook. I might feel nervous, but I couldn’t succeed in tasks completely.

My teacher said, “YOU DON’T HAVE A RIGHT TO JOIN MY LESOON! GET OUT!!!!!!”

I couldn’t get it. I could only do cry and sit behind a door…

After the lesson, I just made an apology. I couldn’t think about why.

The teacher said “I give you the biggest task for you. If you can’t complete the task next lesson, you will be fired. In order to clear the task, DO NOT ASK OTHERS. JUST FOCUS ON YOURSELF“.

My terrible club life started until the national competition. Reminding my club life, I changed one character: Introvert. I was so hard to communicate with others. However, once I practiced with my friends, I more analyzed myself and got challenging spirit for others. I don’t feel fear for mistake. Instead, I solved many problem with my teammates.

After the competition, the teacher said “That’s what I say. Congratuations on completing your biggest task. You were so smart and kind. Of course, It’s important trait. But you were too shy to comunicate with others. That’s why you didn’t grow up. In the future, when you work at a company, you have to have many relationship to many colleagues. Don’t be shy. Keep challenging not to lose others. Next year, you are a leader of this club. Make strong connection to your teammates.

Getting her advice, I changed my value. I can analyze compared to others to improve myself. And even if I make a failure, I have friends, teammates and my family. Failure makes me succeed in my goal!
