Shimoda city is located on south part of Izu Peninsula and Izukyu Odoriko Rapid Train’s terminal. Historically, Shimoda city was the beginning of open the country in Edo Period. Perry was coming to here, Shimoda city to contract with Japan to open country. That’s why, Shimoda city has several sightseeing spots related to him.

Shimoda city is also hot-spring town. I visited a hotel which is brilliant. In this chapter, I’d like to introduce where you should go in Shimoda city and a great hotel where I stayed.

1. Perry Road and Ryosen-Ji

Here is a Perry Road. It’s a street which looks like a mixture Japanese atmosphere and US’s atmosphere. When you arrive here, you just take a walk. There are some shops and cafe, so it’s good to walk around in Shimoda city.

Beside a road, there are many American jasmine. Flowers smell are a little bit strong. It gradually becomes stronger, walking to Ryosen-Ji

The road is connected to this temple: Ryosen-Ji.

Ryosen-Ji is one of a Buddist Temple but the most important thing is, as I mentioned before, here is the location of the treaty between Japan and United States to open country. There is the Black Ship museum in this place. If you wanna get some information about the relationship with Japan and United States in Edo Period, you may enjoy walking here!

Please check this web site of Ryosen-Ji

2. Ryugu Sea Cave and Sand Ski

Here is Ryugu Sea Cave. It’s named from Ryugu Palace from Japanese folklore. It takes about 15 minutes from Shimoda Station by car. Of course, there is a bus from station but the number of buses is so short that I strongly recommend you to rent a car or use taxi.

The shape is outstanding. To take a walk to top, it looks like heart. That’s why some visitor say Ryugu Sea Cave is a power spot for a couple!

Unfortunately, when I visited Shimoda city, it was a sunny and cloudy. If it’s sunshine day and no cloud, the sea’s colour become beautiful emerald green.

Beside the cave, you can enjoy sand skiing. Ryugu Sea Cave and Sand Skiing is one of landmark spot in Shimoda city. I highly want you to visit there!

In the afternoon, I came back from Ryugu Sea Cave. Around 2PM, I was super hungry. I used taxi to visit Ryugu Sea Cave and the driver recommended for us to visit soba restaurant.

I ordered a combo with Tempura. It was for the first time to have such delicious soba in a while. I don’t know other restaurants in Shimoda city because I only visited here. However, Ishizuka’s Soba was the best.

My mom, who is gourmet, said this soba was perfect. Plus, I wanna attach this link so I looked for some website. According to some sites, many visitors also gave good evaluation. You definitely have a lunch here if you visit Shimoda city.

We stayed at this hotel: Nanraku. It takes about 15-20 minutes from Shimoda station. When I booked this hotel, we could also reserved a bus to go to this hotel.

This hotel’s concept is “Welcome back to your hearty hometown“.

Walking to front to check in, you’ll see several rooms. It’s a typical Japanese life style in countryside. You might experience different lifestyle in your home town. If you wanna feel Japanese old fashion lifestyle, you’ll have a fun to stay at Nanraku.

A Duck was welcoming us!!!

The most outstanding thing is hot-spring. There are about 10 rooms to take an Onsen individually. Plus, this hotel is located on a way to a mountain. Bamboos and trees are planted. Therefore, you will definitely forget daily stress and feel relaxed!

When you trip in Japan and stay at Japanese style’s hotel, you definitely enjoy having dinner. Nanraku’s dinner was so delicious!
