Have you ever been to Hiroshima city in Japan? Hiroshima is located on Chugoku area in west part of Japan and it’s known as a world heritage city. But, why Hiroshima is so important sightseeing spots not only in Japan but also all over the world?
From this blog, I’m gonna write 3 parts of Hiroshima. I’ll be happy if you refer to my blog and make a plan to trip in Japan.
1. Why Hiroshima is so important.
Hiroshima holds a significant place in modern Japanese history because it was the first city in the world to experience the devastation of an atomic bomb during World War II. On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, leading to the deaths of over 140,000 people by the end of the year and causing widespread destruction. The bombing marked a turning point in the war and played a crucial role in Japan’s eventual surrender, signaling the end of World War II. This event not only altered the course of Japanese history but also had profound global implications, ushering in the nuclear age and sparking international debates on the ethics of nuclear warfare.
In the post-war period, Hiroshima became a symbol of peace and resilience. The city’s recovery from the devastation stands as a testament to Japan’s ability to rebuild and transform itself into a peaceful, democratic nation. Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park, including the Atomic Bomb Dome, now serves as a center for global peace advocacy and nuclear disarmament. The city’s history is a constant reminder of the horrors of war and the importance of striving for a peaceful world, making Hiroshima a pivotal location in both Japanese and world history.
2. Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome
“Atomic Bomb Dome”
On 6th August, 1945, this dome was collapsed by the atomic bomb for the first time in our history.
The bomb exploded directly above 600 meters from this building.
More than 2 hundreds thousands people were died and around 2 km the city center was became ruins by the one bomb.
In order to tell this heartbreaking fact for later generation and to be human’s precept, this dome is preserved forever by donation of people who are praying peace of the world
Here is the Atomic Bomb Dome. Actually, it was for the first time to visit Hiroshima so I only saw this dome on the history’s textbook. When I saw this, I felt so realistic that I felt really really shocked. That’s the biggest and worst mistake of our human history.
The Atomic Bomb Dome, originally the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, was one of the few structures left standing near the epicenter of the atomic blast on August 6, 1945. Despite the immense destruction surrounding it, the building’s skeletal frame remained largely intact, symbolizing the destructive power of nuclear weapons. In 1996, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a “negative heritage” or “negative world heritage,” meaning it stands as a reminder of humanity’s darkest moments and the devastating consequences of war. This designation aims to educate future generations about the horrors of nuclear weapons and to promote global peace efforts.
Being classified as a “negative heritage” site places the Atomic Bomb Dome alongside other historical locations that bear witness to tragic events. However, its inclusion in the World Heritage list also serves a more hopeful purpose: as a call for nuclear disarmament and the prevention of such atrocities in the future. The dome’s preservation is both a memorial to the victims of the bombing and a global symbol of peace, with its message reaching beyond Japan’s borders to advocate for a world free from nuclear conflict. This duality — representing both tragedy and hope — gives the site its profound historical significance.
3. Conclusion: Praying the peace of world
What do you think. Historically, the nuclear war should be avoided and nuclear armament can’t solve global issues. Of course, there is a perspective that it’s important to prepare nuclear armament because a nation can indicate the power. However, see this negative heritage and listen to the story of the history. Nuclear power cannot solve any problems. Rather, many people’s life are not compensated.
